"I use brass fittings," Corey explains. "There are about six fittings needed, and they are around $20 apiece. Galvanized fittings are around $5." That's roughly a $90 difference between doing the job right and doing it cheap, spread across a single water heater installation .

"Some plumbers use the galvanized fittings to save money, and then connect them to copper supply lines," Corey says. "That creates electrolysis. It destroys the water heater and can destroy piping inside the home."
